Overview

Assists the surgeon by providing and controlling surgical instruments and equipment during surgery. Ensures that instruments and supplies are cleaned, sterilized and available as needed. Provides hands on assisting with procedures. In addition, the surgical assistant will assist the surgeon in day-to-day clinic flow when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure.
  • Performs medical assisting duties which may include, but are not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, and assisting during excisions and surgical procedures. Ensures that all patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use daily.
  • Assists surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
  • Takes appropriate photographs of patients as directed by surgeon for pre and post documentation.
  • Sterilize and package instruments in accordance with industry standards.
  • Communicates with patients, other teammates and the general public in a courteous, helpful manner by phone and in person.
  • Document in the electronic medical system (EMR) as needed.
  • Assist with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Provided demonstrated competency and supervisory agreement is in place.
  • Assist with OSHA daily and monthly checks. Must have the ability to correctly maintain the OSHA log. 
  • Complete suture inventory and check rooms for expiring inventory.
  • Responsible for cross coverage when needed.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to brand or region practice locations to provide clinical coverage when needed. This includes providing coverage when clinicians are on vacation as well as sick calls and PTO coverage.

  • Complete all assigned required training by the deadline including, but not limited the Code of Conduct, Privacy & Data Security, and OSHA.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technician) required
  • Completed an accrediated program and certified through the NBSTSA
  • BLS certification preferred.
  • Plastic Surgery experience preferred.

The salary for this role will range from USD $29.00 to 43.50 per hour based on full-time employment. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to location, relevant skills, training, education, etc. Certain roles may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives.
